The Congress on Wednesday denied it is putting pressure on Maharashtra Governor S M Krishna to reject an ordinance banning dance bars in the state.

"He [Krishna] is the governor of the state and not of any party," caretaker Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee spokesman Anant Gadgil said.

He said the Constitution has given relevant powers to the governor on questioning the state government on any matter.

Asked if the governor has sought clarifications from the state government on rehabilitation of bar girls, Gadgil said there is nothing wrong on the governor's part to seek any clarification.

Sources at the Raj Bhavan said the ordinance file is still with the governor's office.

They said any decision on the ordinance would only be taken after the governor, who is in Delhi to attend the governor's conference, returns on Wednesday evening.
