A total of 583 cadets joined the Indian Army as officers at a passing out parade amid tight security at the Indian Military Academy in Dehradun on Saturday.

Ten cadets belonging to friendly nations like Bhutan and Maldives passed out from the academy, which has produced many war heroes including six Paramvir Chakra winners.

Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Arun Prakash reviewed the parade, which was organized at the drill square in front of the historic Chetwode Building.

All cadets marched in files as Admiral Prakash took the salute with army helicopters showering petals on the parade.

After the parade, reviewing officer Prakash presented awards to the winners. The sword of honor and gold medal was awarded to Academy Under-Officer Ashwani Sudyal
for Best All Round Gentlemen Cadet from the regular course and for standing first in the Order of the Merit from the regular course.

The parade was held amid tight security with the army and police cordoning off the area. Three Lashkar-e-Tayiba militants were killed in an encounter in New Delhi and an accomplice was arrested from near the academy earlier this year. The accomplice had revealed that they had planned to attack the Academy.
