An army major and a Lashkar-e-Tayiba militant were killed and a jawan injured in a gunbattle in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, a top army official said.
Giving details of the gunbattle, Brigadier of 16 Corps General Staff Dhruv Katoch said the militant was killed when troops, following an input, launched a cordon-and-search operation in the Kalakote forestĀ area of the district.
An AK assault rifle, three magazines, 170 rounds of ammunition, three improvised explosive devices and some documents have been recovered from the site of the encounter, General Katoch said.
The encounter, he said, is still on and additional troops have been rushed to the area.
