The Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Thursday demanded that the Central Bureau of Investigation revive the Bofors case through appropriate legal process.
"It is surprising that after such a long investigation, such infirmities and elementary errors existed in preparing the case," the party politburo said in a statement.
Noting that the court quashed proceedings against the Hinduja brothers as the material produced by CBI were not original documents or authenticated copies, the CPM said the Bofors gun deal was "an important case highlighting corruption in high places".
"Neither the CBI nor the judicial process in our country has been able to produce a verdict in high-level corruption cases. This has eroded the people's faith and they view the system as incapable of bringing to book those who misuse public funds", the CPM said.
