Senior Rashtriya Janata Dal leader and Patna Jal Parishad chairman Ashok Yadav was killed and three parishad members were seriously injured in a bomb attack in Patna on Monday.

Yadav was killed near the Miller High School, police said, adding, "Yadav died on the spot in an attack by unidentified criminals." the police added.

Yadav is the second RJD leader to be killed in Patna after President's rule was imposed in the state in March this year. The news of the attack on Yadav and his death sent shockwaves in several parts of his stronghold.

Police officials admit tension is high following Yadav's death. Angry RJD supporters protested by blocking roads and burning tyres in Patna.

Police said it was early to comment on the cause for the killing. "We are waiting for more details before we say anything about who were behind the bomb attack," police said.
