The Mumbai police have arrested three businessmen who were selling pornographic morphed images of celebrities through Internet and multimedia messaging service.
The police seized their computers, Nokia phones, and CDs from their offices that were being circulated to prospective customers.
A tip by a police informer led to the arrest of trio. The police went to their shop at Gamdevi, Mumbai, posing as prospective customers and caught them red handed.
"We have arrested Ashish Gurjar (31), Ramesh Jain (43) and Manoj Jain (27) under the IT act of 2000," said Deputy Commissioner of Police P Dighavkar to reporters.
"They used to download pornographic material from the Internet and then morph the images of Indian celebrities and sell it through CDs and as MMS clips," added Dighavkar.
If convicted the trio can be sentenced to 5 years of imprisonment.
A score of MMS clips and porn CDs have rocked the Indian film industry as almost every month one or the other actress' MMS clips are being circulated in the market.
Recently, a porn MMS clip of a Mallika Sherawat lookalike was being circulated. The actress denied that she was in the film.
It was later found that the actress in question was a Mallika lookalike. The MMS clip was that of a Mexican porn star whose CDs and MMS clips were being circulated in Mallika's name.
Earlier, a lesser-known actress of the Hindi film industry was caught in compromising position with her actor boyfriend.
The authenticity of this clip could never be verified. No arrests were made as there was no complaint registered.
When asked who the celebrities were whose morphed images were being circulated, Dighavkar refused to comment.
"The investigations are going on and we would not like to comment on anything now," concluded Dighavkar.
