Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Madan Lal Khurana, who demanded the resignation of party chief Lal Kishenchand Advani, on Tuesday said that the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh leadership approved his demand.

"Two senior RSS functionaries met me a few days back. I discussed the issue with them... It is only after clearance from the RSS leadership that I sent the letter to Advaniji," Khurana told PTI.

The former Delhi strongman and one-time Advani loyalist created a flutter on Saturday when he demanded that the BJP president quit his post as well as resign as leader of opposition in Lok Sabha as he had "sacrificed ideology" and converted the party into "private company limited".

Referring to the Jinnah controversy, Khurana said he had requested former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee to call a meeting of RSS chief K S Sudarshan and Advani for a "heart-to-heart talk" so as to defuse tension.

"Vajpayeeji agreed, saying it is a good idea but Advani was not receptive to it. But ultimately he had to go to the RSS headquarters for the patch up," he said.
