Police on Monday collected a voice sample of Bollywood star Aishwarya Rai and also recorded her statement to verify the authenticity of the audiotape in which actor Salman Khan flaunted his alleged underworld links in a purportedly conversation with the actress.
A Crime Branch team reached Aishwarya's house in suburban Bandra on Monday morning and recorded her statement, while experts recorded a voice sample, sources close to Rai said.
Salman was on Sunday summoned to the Crime Branch office in Andheri, where his statement and voice sample was also recorded.
Crime Branch Deputy Commissioner of Police Dhananjay Kamalakar denied any sample or statement was taken.
"We have not recorded her statement nor have we taken a voice sample," he said.
However, Police Commissioner A N Roy told PTI that the police would take her voice sample and record her statement during the day.
Television channels released the audiotape and a newspaper published the transcripts.
In the tape, Khan flaunts his connection with the underworld and also threatens that the underworld figures would "eliminate" Rai and her family if he so desired.
