The yatra to the cave shrine of Amarnath in Kashmir, situated at an altitude of 3,880 mt, was suspended from both the routes -- Pahalgam and Baltal -- on Tuesday as heavy rains rendered the ardous tracks slippery, sources said.
Pilgrims have been directed to stay at the base camps at Nunwan in Pahalgam and Baltal pending further orders.
Those who have reached other places like Chandanwari, Panchtarni, Pisu Top, Sangam and the holy cave have been
asked not to proceed further, sources said.
The sources said authorities are monitoring the weather situation on an hourly basis.
Heavy rains lashed many parts of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday morning.
