Maoists killed five persons in separate incidents in Sambalpur district of Orissa early Thursday morning, police said.
While one person was shot dead, four others were hacked to death by the ultras in three villages of the district, Deputy Inspector General (Northern Range) Pranabindu Acharya said.
In Tamparsingha village one Gurucharan Nayak, a panchayat samiti member's husband, was done to death. A teacher was killed in Larabira village and three others in Banjaritikira hamlet, spreading panic in the deeply forested area, Acharya added.
The ultras had killed three persons in Burda village on May 27.
