Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav on Tuesday rejected charges of a security lapse in Ayodhya, where heavily armed militants managed to get close to the disputed siteĀ and blew off a jeep laden with explosives.

All six militants were killed by the security forces guarding the site.

"There was no security lapse at the campus and this is why the militants could not reach the makeshift temple and all
of them were eliminated," Yadav told reporters.

"The security forces were fully alert or else how could all the heavily armed militants be stopped a good 150 metre
short of the makeshift temple?" he said.

Yadav said security around the complex is reviewed regularly.

He said the state government would seek help from the Centre if and when required.
