All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam MLA K Sudarsanam was on Sunday shot dead and his son injured at their residence by a six-member gang, which escaped with jewellery and cash.
The MLA represented Gumidipoondi in Tiruvallur district, police said. He was shot dead after he came out of his house, in Tiruvallur, apparently on hearing some noise outside at around 2.30 am.
The gang then attacked and injured Satish, the MLA's son, and locked him in a room before decamping with the cash and jewellery.
Senior police officers, including Inspector General of Police R Jangid, rushed to the spot and began an investigation.
