Congress leader and Goa Chief Minister Pratapsinh Rane will face a vote of confidence in the assembly on Monday.

The speaker's role is expected to be crucial.

Rane was sworn in hours after the Bharatiya Janata Party government was dismissed on February 2.

Governor S C Jamir had given him 30 days to prove majority.

Although figures show that the Congress has 18 legislators compared to the BJP's 16, the government does not expect it to be easy.

While the Congress has consistently accused Speaker Vishwas Satarkar of being partisan, the BJP has maintained that the assembly is the speaker's domain.

Satarkar is expected give a decision on independent legislator Filipe Neri Rodrigues's disqualification petition.

He is yet to accept BJP legislator Digamber Kamat's resignation.

Both decisions could potentially decide the government's fate.
