Toll rises to 267 in snow-hit J&K

The death toll mounted to 267 in the snow-hit Jammu and Kashmir, police sources said on Saturday.

Thirty-three people are still missing they said, adding that 468 people were rescued across the state. Of the total rescued, 381 were rescued from Kashmir Valley and 87 from Jammu.

Police said 201 were killed in Kashmir and 66 in Jammu.

"Over 171 people were killed and 381 rescued from avalanches-hit Nagni, Panznar and Waltingo villages in Anantnag district," the sources said.

In south Kashmir, 14 were killed in Halsidan, 11 in Rangkund, two in Pakerpora, three in Chowgund and one in Reshi Pora.

The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway remained closed for the ninth day.
