A Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh-promoted institute plans to launch its first university near Jaipur, which will promote studies in yoga, ayurveda, medical sciences and culture.

The Rajasthan government has given a letter of intent to Keshav Vidyapeeth, which runs a college at Jamdoli near Jaipur, to start a self-financing private university, a spokesman of the institute said.

Spread over 2,300 acres near the pilgrimage centre Galta, the proposed university -- Keshav Vidyapeeth Vishwavidyalaya -- is likely to start functioning from the next academic session, he said.

The university will have 16 postgraduate colleges in Jaipur, Jodhpur, Kota, Dausa and other towns of Rajasthan, the spokesman said.

Two colleges in Jaipur will be exclusively for girls.

"We have infrastructure and resources to run a model university, which could be replicated in other states," he said.

"Our institution will lay emphasis on Indian values and culture, which is fast eroding in the face of onslaught of western culture," he said.

A bill for allowing self-financing private universities in the state has already been introduced in the assembly and sent to select committee of the House.
