The Parliament is considering adopting children orphaned by the December 26 tsunami disaster.
Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee on Wednesday said discussions were on between Vice-President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat and top political leaders to operationalise the scheme.
To be funded by a trust set up through contributions from members of Parliament, the scheme is expected to benefit thousands of children in the tsunami-hit areas.
The trust fund is likely to be headed by a senior MP to monitor its activities. The funds would provide for all the needs of the children - from food, lodging, clothing to education.
