The police in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, has registered a case against three people for allegedly taking a woman 'on rent' for a year in order to have his baby.
A case has been registered against the three persons -- Nagesh Pandit alias Rajiv (manager of a women's ashram), Mukesh Tyagi (buyer) and Sonia alias Bala (the woman) -- under sections of the Indian Penal Code in Garh Mukteshwar police station, Senior Superintendent of Police, Ghaziabad, Jai Narayan Singh said.
Tyagi, who is a resident of Sonepat in Haryana, admitted that he 'rented' Bala from Pandit for Rs 72,000.
He alleged that Bala stayed with him at his residence in Sonepat for a month and became pregnant. She is now refusing to acknowledge the same and has returned to the ashram.
In a written complaint to the police, Tyagi mentioned a 'breach of contract' by Bala and the ashram.
However, the police claim the 'contract itself is null and void ab initio (from the beginning) and all the persons involved are accused in the eyes of law'.
Singh said that more arrests would be made in a day or two following further investigations. He added that they are probing the involvement of Pandit's wife Poonam and Tyagi's wife Santosh in the case.
Apparently, Mukesh and Santosh had met the sub-divisional magistrate of Garh, Mukteshwar Smita Singh, and given in writing that they had refunded Rs 50,000 to Pandit.
