Shiv Sena corporator Datta Dalvi was on Friday elected mayor of Mumbai while the Bharatiya Janata Party's Dilip Patel was re-elected as deputy mayor.

Dalvi, who is also chairman of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation standing committee, received 140 votes; his Congress rival R R Pillai got 63, BMC sources said.

Three votes were declared invalid, the sources said.

Dalvi, who will be mayor for two years, will take charge from Mahadeo Deole, who completes his tenure on February 20.
