A sessions court on Thursday adjourned till February 22 the anticipatory bail application filed by Kanchi Shankaracharya Jayendra Saraswathi in an assault case.

Principal Sessions Judge P Murugesan adjourned the hearing on a plea moved by city public prosecutor T V Ganesan.

The case relates to an assault on Tirukoshttiyur Madhavan in Chennai last August.

By a standing high court order, the seer cannot be arrested in the case till his bail application is disposed of.

The Shankaracharya, who was arrested last November in connection with the Sankararaman murder case, was released on bail on January 11.
