One hundred and ninety-nine people have been killed across Pakistan in weeklong rain and snowfall that caused a dam to burst in Baluchistan, officials said on Saturday.

The officials said 90 people died after the Shadi Kaur dam burst on Thursday night. They said the death toll was expected to rise as many were missing. Sana Ullah Baloch, a member of the Senate from Baluchistan, said unconfirmed reports stated that 500 people were missing.

Another dam in Baluchistan raised safety alarms on Friday, when water levels reached three inches above the danger level. Officials are keeping a watch on the Akra Kaur dam to avert another disaster, the daily Dawn reported, adding that most people living along the dam were shifted to higher regions.

Provincial Minister for Tourism and Gwadar Development Authority Syed Sher Jan Baloch said five villages with over 5,500 people were under water and three to four feet of floodwater inundated five wards of Pasni town.

Reports from northern regions stated that 109 people, including 32 army men, have been killed and hundreds were injured in incessant rain and snowfall.
