In yet another relief for beleaguered Kanchi Shankaracharya Jayendra Saraswati, the prime accused in the Sankararaman murder case, a court granted him anticipatory bail in a case relating to tampering with the mutt's accounts.

Justice M Thanikachalam directed the seer to report to the police as and when required.

The judge noted that the material collected by the prosecution was not sufficient to include the petitioner in the case. "However, the apprehension still remains and hence I am granting anticipatory bail," he said.

When the petition came up for hearing, Public Prosecutor K Doraisamy submitted that investigations conducted till now did not indicate any involvement of the Shankaracharya in the crime.

Meanwhile, the Principal Session Court in Kanchipuram adjourned to Feb 17 the anticipatory bail application filed by the seer in the Tirukottiyur Madhavan assault case.

Judge P Murugesan adjourned the hearing after the prosecution and the seer's counsel sought it.

The case relates to the assault on a temple priest, Madhavan, in Kanchipuram in August last year.

The seer has been granted bail in the Sankararaman murder case and the Radhakrishnan assault case.
