Goa Assembly Speaker B Satarkar on Saturday rejected demands for his resignation.

"The question doesn't arise. I will not resign. As the House had elected me unanimously, it is up to the House to decide whether it has faith in me or not," he said, rejecting the Congress' demanded for his resignation.

Satarkar has been criticized by the Congress and Goa Governor S C Jamir for his role in the trust vote that was taken up in the assembly on Wednesday.

When remarked that he had behaved like a Bharatiya Janata Party member of Legislative Assembly rather than a speaker, he told Aaj Tak, "Definitely, I am an elected MLA of the BJP, but when I took the seat of speaker in the Assembly, I never went to any party meeting. The House had elected me unanimously and if anybody wants to remove me then they should go to the floor of the house to do so."

Hitting out at the governor, the speaker said, "He has nothing to do with the business of the assembly. The Goa legislative assembly is a different entity. The governor of Goa is a different entity. Both are constitutional authorities and the governor has no right to interfere in my business."
