Describing the dismissal of the Goa government as "murder of democracy", the Bharatiya Janata Party on Wednesday decided to seek presidential intervention.

Party president L K Advani demanded reinstatement of the Manohar Parikkar government and recall of Governor S C Jamir.

The BJP chief said a delegation of senior party leaders would call on the President on Thursday to "present their case and to seek his intervention in the matter".

"The action of the governor in dismissing the Parikkar government after it had proved its majority on the floor of the House is nothing short of murder of democracy. It is now obvious that the governor's reprehensible action is part of a pre-meditated conspiracy to destabilise the BJP Government in Goa", Advani told a hurriedly called press conference in Delhi.

He said the entire sequence of events leading to the dismissal suggested that the governor had acted as a "henchman of the Congress party with scant regard for Constitutional responsibilities".

"The fact that he acted without even seeking a report from the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly conclusively establishes that he had followed the diktat of the Congress high command", he said.
