The Manohar Parrikar government in Goa on Wednesday won a vote of confidence in the state assembly amidst opposition protests against the disqualification independent MLA Philip Neri Rodrigues by the speaker.

Speaker Vishwas Satarkar counted 18 votes in the ruling coalition's favour and six for the opposition.

The Congress said it will petition the governor, challenging the disqualification of Rodrigues.

The debate on the trust vote lasted two hours and Rodrigues' disqualification was announced after the recess.

Speaker directed the staff to physically remove Rodrigues from the House after he refused to leave.

The trust vote was taken up soon after Neri's disqualification.
