Retired Indian Institute of Technology Professor M C Puri, who was killed in Wednesday's terror attack in Bangalore, ensured the safety of his colleagues and foreign delegates when militants were firing indiscriminately, Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil said on Friday.
After visiting Puri's family in Delhi, Patil said he was touched by the professor's brave and valiant attempt.
"He saw to it that other members were protected and shouted to everyone to lie down," Patil said.
Patil also said he was touched by the statement made by Puri's son that there was nothing wrong in the government machinery in ensuring the safety of the scientist.
"We all stand by the family in this hour of grief," he added.
