In its political resolution, the Bharatiya Janata Party has admitted that corruption has crept into it and its image has suffered to a great extent.
Sushma Swaraj, spokesperson, said that if the party's MPs had not been caught during Operation Duryodhan then the party members would have been able to walk with their heads high.
"The BJP unreservedly expresses its regret over the involvement of some of its elected representatives who accepted cash to ask questions in Parliament. Such people have no place in a parliamentary democracy. At the same time, the party is concerned that short circuiting disciplinary procedures could open the floodgates of political vendetta," she said.
She launched a frontal attack on Sonia Gandhi for her statement that the Congress Party would not allow itself to become BJP.
"Anti-corruption measures cannot be selective. The government cannot pretend to be on a moral high as long as its persists with scam-tainted ministers in the union council of ministers. Soniaji, do you known what BJP karan means? It means giving up dynastic rule. It means understanding Indian culture. It means love for India as a nation. Can you do that," she asked.
With an eye on forthcoming elections in Assam, Swaraj said that the present state government has joined hands with disruptive elements and was encouraging killings of rival factions.
The political resolution also highlights the BJP's achievements in the last 25 years, which led to the election of Atal Bihari Vajpayee as prime minister in 1998 and the formation of the National Democratic Alliance.
'Accompanied by phenomenal goodwill and dizzying expectations, the BJP, as the driving force of the NDA government, put India on the road to becoming a proud, self-confident and vibrant global power. The BJP helped unleash India's true potential', the resolution said.
'The BJP epitomised the hopes and the expectations of people who wanted a clean break from Congress misrule and the corresponding decline in the quality of public life', it said.
Kalyan Singh, former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, said that the party should not be apologetic about issues like construction of the Ram temple, Article 370 and the uniform civil code.
"The Congress is synonymous with corruption and if you say corruption, people would understand that you are talking about the Congress party. But BJP needs to be disciplined and we have to be transparent in our work," he said.
He lashed out at the government's recommendation for reservation in minority institutions. He also pleaded with the BJP leaders not to give tickets to individuals with criminal background.
