The Bharatiya Janata Party on Thursday expressed regret that some of its members of Parliament were involved in the cash-for-questions scandal, but maintained that 'short-circuiting' disciplinary proceedings in such cases may lead to political vendetta.

The BJP had demanded in Parliament that the tainted MPs be given a chance to explain themselves before the Privileges Committee.

'Such people have no place in parliamentary democracy,' a draft political resolution, being taken up for passing at the party's national convention in Mumbai on Thursday, said.

'The stonewalling of the United Progressive Alliance on the Volcker controversy and the Mitrokhin revelations can be contrasted with the Congress' alacrity to act in the cash for questions scandal,' it said.

The party sounded optimistic over the prospects of a mid-term poll and said 'the coming months pose challenges and opportunities for the BJP. The ramshackle UPA is riddled with internal contradictions and lacks coherence. The National Democratic Alliance exists as the government in waiting'.
