The Centre has sought a report from the Gujarat government on the digging out of skeletal remains from a mass grave in Panchamahal district, the Congress party said Wednesday.

"This is very unfortunate. There cannot be another example of killing of human beings. The Central Bureau of Investigation has ready rushed its team while the Ministry of Home Affairs has sought a report from the state government in this regard," All India Congress Committee general Secretary Janardan Dwiwedi told reporters.

He said the digging out of so many human remains at one place was "heart-breaking".

Earlier, reacting to the digging out of skeletal remains from a mass grave, chairperson of the AICC's media department Ambika Soni accused Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi of "always attempting" to run the state instilling "fear and social tension" among people.

"What had happened during the rule of Modi has lowered the image of India among the comity of nations. He always tried to create social tension through his speeches. He tried to run the state instilling fear among the people," AICC general secretary Ambika Soni told reporters.

Warning the Modi government that his tactics would not work in the next Assembly polls, Soni said instilling fear may work once, but would not last for long. "Those who are brave will expose the misdeeds of the Modi government," she said.
