The Madhya Pradesh police on Wednesday said Bharatiya Janata Party leader Sanjay Joshi, who has resigned as general secretary over a CD showing him in 'poor light', has complained that attempts were being made to blackmail him and the matter was being probed.

"I have received a letter from Joshi that someone was trying to blackmail him using a CD. The matter is being inquired into," Swaraj Puri, State Director General of Police told PTI in Bhopal.

"At present I am co-ordinating it myself. No formal investigation has been launched and the future course of action will be decided shortly," he said, declining to give further details.

In his complaint, Joshi has alleged that he was getting calls on his mobile phone from landlines as well as cell phones in Madhya Pradesh, adding that objectionable references about him were made by the alleged blackmailer.

Joshi resigned from the party post on Tuesday following circulation of a CD among BJP leaders during the National Executive Meet in Mumbai, showing him in 'bad light'.
