"Police opened fire in the air at 2-3 localities of the town to disperse angry crowd. The situation was under control but curfew was imposed as a precautionary measure," Inspector General of Police Sanjay Rana told PTI.
The angry mob, protesting the killing of former Bahujan Samajwadi Party chief P P Choudhary and his son Hitendra, allegedly by members of the upper caste on Wednesday, went on the rampage looting and burning around 15 shops in Phatak Bahar area, besides blocking Agra-Mumbai National Highway and breaking windscreens of over dozen buses and trucks, police said.
Fifteen passengers of Agra-Gwalior train were injured as crowd pelted stones, they said, adding two youths and a 12-year-old boy sustained gunshot wounds and nine others sustained injuries, six critically, during stone-pelting.
The protestors also stoned the Delhi-Bhopal Shatabdi Express following which the trains through Morena were halted for a few minutes, police said. The crowd also ransacked a GRP outpost at the railway station and attempted to set afire a goods train carrying vegetables, besides setting afire telephone distribution junctions at three places snapping around 3000 phones in the city, they said.
