Taking strong exception to the police action on young couples meeting in public parks in Meerut, the National Commission for Women on Tuesday asked Uttar Pradesh authorities to submit a report in the matter.
"The NCW has sought a compliance report from the state authorities within a week," an NCW spokesperson said.
She said the commission has also asked the state director-general of police and the chief secretary to file a report.
The commission also termed as 'not proper' visuals of police action against couples being telecast by a section of the media.
Student groups in Meerut said that some boys and girls studying together were beaten up and abused by the police, including women constables, on Monday on the charge that they were having 'illicit affairs'.
