Renowned industrialist and veteran aviator Vijaypath Singhania was Monday sworn in as the sheriff of Mumbai.
Singhania, who was recently in the news for setting a world record of flying at the highest altitude in a hot air balloon, was administered the oath of office by Maharashtra Governor S M Krishna, at the Darbar Hall of Raj Bhavan Monday morning, a release from Raj Bhavan said in Mumbai.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh, cabinet ministers and other senior officials were present, the release said.
Singhania, who is chairman emeritus of Raymond Ltd, is a keen aviator and is also involved with several social welfare organisations, the release added.
