Seeking to take the wind out of Bharatiya Janata Party's sails, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Wednesday attacked the main opposition party for trying to take credit for Natwar Singh's resignation from the Union Cabinet and accused it of trying to set a "very wrong precedent".
Opposition again stalls Parliament
"By taking credit for Natwar Singh's resignation, the opposition have sought to justify what they have done (stalling the proceedings for four days)... An impression has been sought to be made that Natwar had to go because something has been found against him," senior CPI-M MP Nilotpal Basu told reporters.
He said it was a very wrong precedent the BJP-led opposition was trying to make.
Basu said because of the repeated stalling of both the Houses, the discussion on World Trade Organisation has been truncated and issues sought to be pushed by the United States and the European Union could not be debated threadbare.
Apprehending that issues of great importance to developing countries were sought to be pushed to the background, he said Parliament should have held a full fledged discussion on India's approach at the forthcoming Hong Kong meet.
