Army Thursday said it will implement the Right to Information Act, 2005, and its internal circular asking officers to withhold information on sensitive matters has been withdrawn till a clarification from the Defence Ministry is received.
"Army has taken cognisance of the requirements of the said act" and the necessary mechanism for the purpose has been set in motion, including appointing the public information officer and appellate authority to operationalise the act, an army spokesman said.
On media reports that the army has instructed its officers to withhold data on arms, postings and promotions in individual cases, he said a clarification has been sought from the Defence Ministry on certain issues related to the act and the internal circular asking the officers to withhold information on sensitive matters has been withdrawn till then.
