Maharashtra MLA Arun Gawli was arrested in Mumbai Thursday.
The gangster-turned-politician was arrested on the charge of threatening and assaulting an NCP worker last week, police said.
Gawli, who represents Chinchpokli legislative assembly segment in central Mumbai, however, is hospitalised for treatment of malaria at Jaslok hospital in south Mumbai, sources close to him told PTI.
According to the police, Gawli allegedly threatened and assaulted NCP worker Hemant Rane at the former's residence at Dagdi Chawl in central Mumbai some time last week but Rane lodged a complaint this morning, police added.
Senior police officials said that although Gawli was arrested in the hospital, they would ask for his custody, if required, from the court after he is discharged.
