Train services on the central railway were disrupted on Thursday morning after angry commuters began their 'jan andolan,'  protesting the continued delay in restoration of normal services after the July 26 deluge, at Dombivali in neighbouring Thane district.

Several long distance trains and suburban services were suspended beyond Thane towards Kalyan as agitators staged rail roko on all the 4 tracks and pelted stones on the railway authorities, including the motormen, at Dombivali, Railway police sources said in Mumbai.

More than 500 commutters squatted on the 4 tracks from 10.30 am, they said. All the long distance trains coming towards Mumbai have been halted at various places, they said, adding that however, the suburban trains between Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus and Thane were running.

Large portions of railway tracks were damaged in Mumbai and Thane districts after the unprecedented rains on and after July 26 leading to a disruption in normal services on the Kalyan-Kasara section of the central railways.
