The Maharashtra government, which has sought financial assistance from the Centre, has forwarded an Interim Report to it informing that property valued at Rs 8,576 crore was damaged in the July 26 heavy rains in the state, official sources said.
The report was sent on August 16, Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh told reporters in Mumbai on Thursday after the weekly cabinet meeting.
The state government had also sent a memorandum to the Centre on Wednesday seeking help from the National Disaster Relief Fund for repairing houses and rebuilding infrastructure, the chief minister said.
The state has sought Rs 1,200 crore for cleaning up the Mithi river and an additional Rs 1,200 crore for upgrading the
drainage system in Mumbai, Rs 925 for repairing and rebuilding houses and Rs 2,391 crore for improving infrastructure, Deshmukh said.
The Central government team would visit the affected areas of the state on August 21 and submit a report to the Centre, he said.
