A senior police official was summoned to a local court on Wednesday after lawyers of the accused in the drugs case, Salil Chaturvedi, alleged that evidence had been planted at his residence and that the 'panchnama' was fabricated.
Senior Police Inspector M B Katade of Santacruz police station was summoned by the court after Chaturvedi's lawyer Amit Desai alleged that all basic Constitutional rights had not been adhered to by the police and hence Chaturvedi should be released on bail.
Desai further said Chaturvedi was held in illegal custody for over 24 hours and was also produced handcuffed in the court premises.
Chaturvedi, owner of the Provogue apparel brand who was arrested on Tuesday, was produced before the court in connection with the case.
