Heavy rains continued to pound Raigad district of Maharashtra on Monday with authorities evacuating 800 people from three villages as a precautionary measure as the death toll in this Konkan belt rose to 180 with the recovery of 6 more bodies, police said.
About 800 people residing in Chochinde, Muthavali and Vanikond villages have been shifted to safer places due to fear of landslides, police said.
Deputy Chief Minister R R Patil and newly inducted minister Narayan Rane on Monday visited Mahad and addressed a public meeting.

Patil said the region, which was affected by landslides, would be examined by a geologist and a concerte plan would be prepared for the future on the basis of the report.
So far, an assistance of Rs 7 crore had been distributed to flood-affected families, officials said.
