Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi arrived in New Delhi late on Thursday night on a two-day visit.

During his visit, the two countries are expected to unfold an eight-point action plan to provide 'strategic orientation' to their global partnership.

Koizumi, who is heading a high-level delegation, was received at the Delhi airport by Minister of State for External Affairs E Ahamed.

The two sides are likely to establish a high-level strategic dialogue between National Security Adviser M K Narayanan and diplomatic adviser to Japanese government and former Japanese foreign minister Yoriko Kawaguchi.

Koizumi will call on President A P J Abdul Kalam on Friday and hold wide-ranging discussions with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on the entire gamut of bilateral ties, besides covering important regional and international issues of mutual concern.

The Japanese premier will have a luncheon meeting to be jointly organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry, Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry and the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India. He will also visit the Delhi Metro  site.

The eight-point action plan is expected to be outlined in a Joint Statement that may be signed by the two PMs.

High on their agenda will be United Nations' reforms. India and Japan, along with Germany and Brazil, aspire to become permanent members of the UN Security Council and have formed the G-4 in support of their claim. The four nations have agreed in principle to extend mutual support.

External Affairs Minister K Natwar Singh will call on the Japanese premier on Saturday morning.
