The Mumbai police plan to write to the Maharashtra government to conduct the trial of the case of the rape of a 16-year-old girl by a police constable in a special or fast-track court for its early disposal.
"I will write soon to the government requesting to set up a special court to hear the matter," Mumbai police Commissioner A N Roy told PTI.
Roy, however, denied media reports that he has already written to Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister R R Patil.
Though Roy refused to elaborate further, police sources said the incident had shaken the trust of the people in police. The move to have the trial completed expeditiously through a fast-track court might convince people about the police's intention to ensure that justice is delivered.
The medical examination reports of the arrested cop, Sunil More, have, meanwhile, revealed that he had consumed large amount of liquor before his arrest. The blood samples contained 'significant amount of alcohol', the medical reports said, according to police sources.
The other test reports of the accused as well as the victim have reached the investigating officer, sources said.
Meanwhile, the office-bearers of the Churchgate-Nariman Point Residents Association, which has members staying in the Marine Drive area, are likely to meet Patil on Tuesday to express their concern over the incident.
