The police constable who is alleged to have raped a teenager inside a police post at Marine Drive in Mumbai, has been dismissed from service, a senior official said on Sunday.
"The decision to dismiss Sunil More was taken considering the seriousness of the case and was done as per the Indian Constitution," Joint commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Ahmed Javed told PTI. This kind of decision is taken in extreme cases, he added.
The 16-year-old victim was walking on the Marine Drive along with a friend on April 21 when More allegedly took her inside the Meghdoot police post and raped her in an inebriated condition.
More was arrested immediately after the incident. The Crime Branch is investigating the case.
Meanwhile, the police have removed the police post, which was damaged by an enraged crowd after the incident.
