Cop rapes 16-yr-old girl in Mumbai

A teenaged girl was on Thursday raped by a cop in a chowky under the Marine Drive [ Images ] flyover in Mumbai [ Images ].

The 16-year-old girl from Chembur was taking a walk on the promenade along the Marine Drive with two boys late afternoon, when Sunil More summoned them to the chowky. After asking the boys to leave, he bolted the door and started physically assaulting the girl.

Hearing her screams, passers-by forced their way into the chowky and showered blows on the cop.

More was later arrested.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra [ Images ] Deputy Chief Minister R R Patil [ Images ] on Friday said the Mumbai Crime Branch will probe the incident.

Patil, who visited the Meghdoot police chowky on Marine Drive early on Friday, said he will meet the parents of the girl. The government will render all the necessary assistance to the girl and her family, he said.
