Just days after asking former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Bharatiya Janata Party chief Lal Kishenchand Advani to make way for the younger generation in the party, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief K S Sudershan on Wednesday showered praise on the performance of the previous Vajpayee-led National Democratic Alliance government.

Only a few days back in an interview on NDTV's Walk the Talk programme, Sudershan had accused Vajpayee of doing nothing on the Ayodhya issue during his tenure as prime minister. He had also questioned the role played by Vajpayee's trusted aide and the then national security advisor Brajesh Mishra in the government.

It remains to be seen why Sudershan is suddenly singing a new tune.

On Tuesday, Vajpayee welcomed Sudershan's suggestion and said that he is anyway not doing much work in the party.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a public function at Viratnagar, 40 km from Jaipur, Sudershan said the Vajpayee-led government was the first non-Congress government to have successfully completed its term.

He said it was also during Vajpayee's prime ministership that the country conducted the Pokhran nuclear tests and laid the roadmap for connecting villages with national highways.

Sudershan said his remarks on Vajpayee and Advani were 'wrongly interpreted'.
