The Bharatiya Janata Party on Saturday expelled four rebels who failed to withdraw their nominations in favour of the official nominees for the October 13 assembly election in Maharashtra, party leader Gopinath Munde said.

He said the party decided to expel sitting MLAs Hemendra Mehta and Kisan Kale from Borivali and Sillod respectively and ex-MLAs Narsingh Mengji from Solapur and Lakhan Malik from Washim, who are contesting as independents after being denied tickets.

"There may be more rebels and they will also face similar action," Munde said, adding that party activists supporting the rebels will also be punished.
