The Janata Dal (U) on Sunday said it would seek an immediate meeting of the National Democratic Alliance to clarify the recent statement of the BJP leadership on Ayodhya.
"The recent statement of the BJP leadership on Ayodhya has created uncalled for controversies and feeling in the minds of the people and particularly in the minds of the poltical activists that BJP is charting its own course with Hindutva as its driving force," said the JD(U) resolution passed in its national executive committee meeting in Ranchi.
"In the circumstances we will seek an immediate meeting of the NDA for this purpose to clarify all the related issues."
Stating that the NDA agenda was for a change in governance and to pursue economic and social policies, the resolution added that the alliance was launched putting aside contentious issues like the Ayodhya dispute to preserve secular values.
"While each party in the NDA has the right to pursue its policies, anything that impinges on the NDA agenda raises too many questions," the resolution adopted at the conclusion of the national executive committee meeting said.
Criticising the UPA government at the Centre for "non-performance" and "hollowness of its grandiose commitments" made during the Lok Sabha elections, the JD(U) resolution said electoral promise to provide one job per family has remained a mirage while investments in rural areas were moving at snail's speed.
"Suicides by farmers are growing and starvation deaths, particularly of children don't attract the government's attention," it said. Taking a dig at the initiation of a CBI probe against some opposition leaders who were ministers during the NDA regime, the resolution said the only achievement of Manmohan Singh regime has been 'witch-hunting'.
Claiming that the UPA government is "basking in the sunshine of the achievements of the Vajpayee rule," it alleged that the Centre had now messed up the north east problems, particularly in Manipur.
"The UPA government's failure to understand the sensitivities of the Manipur people and treat their grievances and aspirations like a school master has shown how inept are the minds of its ministers," the resolution said.
Referring to the recent Maharastra assembly elections, the resolution said the polls were being fought with money and muscle power instead of on the strength of policies and programmes.
It said the UPA government had made a mockery of parliamentary system by inducting "criminals with long track records into its ministry." "It has made the electorate and the youth disillusioned, making them lose faith in the electoral system," it said.
