Tamil Nadu STF will not be disbanded

The Tamil Nadu government has decided not to disband the Special Task Force constituted to hunt for forest brigand Veerappan, now that the dreaded tusker smuggler is dead.

Veerappan was killed in an encounter with the STF near Dharmapuri on Monday night.

Senior Tamil Nadu government officials indicated that the STF may be retrained and re-equipped to deal with Tamil nationalist guerrillas.
