A journalist working for a national channel was arrested on Friday for having cast a bogus vote during the Maharashtra assembly election on October 13.

Sanjay Prabhakar, a senior journalist with NDTV India, was arrested in Bhiwandi in Thane district after a warrant was issued against him, police said.

Prabhakar was on election duty in Thane, Mumbra, Bhiwandi and Padga areas when he came to know that certain places were witnessing bogus voting.

Prabhakar then spoke to his seniors in NDTV and went to a booth to shoot what was going on.

Soon someone approached him and asked him to vote in the name of a person who had not come.

He then cast his vote while his cameraman shot the action from distance.

"Our intention was not to cast a bogus vote. We wanted to expose what was going on," Prabhakar told rediff.com

The journalist is out on bail now.
