Bihar police on Saturday claimed to have made a breakthrough in the kidnapping case of two engineers of the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation.
A senior police official told rediff.com that police have "got a solid clue and are likely to rescue the abducted engineers".
The Bihar police conducted raids at several places across the state in the last 24 hours. They also raided the house of controversial Lok Janashakti Party's legislator Vijay Shukla alias Munna Shukla in Muzaffarpur on Saturday.
NHPC General Manager (Projects) T Mandal and Chief Engineer K K Singh, who were engaged in the construction of roads in rural Bihar, were kidnapped near a village in Vaisali district on Friday by a group of armed men.
Meanwhile, Rashtriya Janata Dal chief and Railway Minister Lalu Prasad, talking to reporters, said the kidnapping was a conspiracy by vested criminals in the state to defame him and his wife and Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi before the assembly elections due in February 2005.
