Prime Minister Manmohan Singh prayed at the famous Hazratbal shrine in Srinagar on Wednesday, shortly after his arrival on a two-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir.
The PM was accompanied by Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Ghulam Nabi Azad, Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and other top officials.
The imam of the shrine, where a strand of hair said to be that of Prophet Mohammad is kept, offered a shawl to the PM and briefed him about the holy place.
Singh also sprinkled food grains for pigeons, a practice considered as auspicious by locals.
